That's not to say that the Moto phone is perfect. Its processor is only a second slower on most tasks, it only works on 4G networks, and its paltry 32GB of internal storage just isn't enough room to use it for long. But for its price, it's hard to argue against the Moto G Pure - it does a lot of things right.
How we rate and rate products
For a large phone with a 6.5-inch screen, the Moto G Pure looks relatively compact at 0.34 inches thin and weighing 0.41 pounds. Thanks to its rounded corners and angled edges, the G Pure feels comfortable in the hand even over long distances, although it's a bit tall (the screen has a 20:9 aspect ratio) for one-handed use for my hands. little.
The G Pure comes in a deep indigo color and has a subtle shimmer to its textured matte reverse. Its plastic material is very hard and slippery, despite this texture. In fact, I've lost count of how many times the phone has magically slipped off an ottoman or table and still works. Yes, this $160 Moto phone is pretty durable, but it wouldn't test the smartphone gods; it's even better with a case.
It has a snappy fingerprint sensor below the Motorola logo, as well as Face Unlock to give you a hands-free option to unlock your phone. I like that the Moto software gives you more control over how it works. You can use your face to unlock your phone (no need to press the power button first) and ask your phone to take you to the last open app or web page (instead of the lock screen). In good lighting, Face Unlock works well, but the fingerprint sensor is faster and more consistent.
hardware and performance
As part of cutting costs to catch up with the G Pure's low price, Motorola went with a weak processor and minimal RAM, and it shows. At the heart of the Moto phone is the MediaTek Helio G25 processor.comparable a Qualcomm Snapdragon 439but it lags behind the 2018 Snapdragon chipset. Everything from opening a website, to switching between apps, to opening the camera app to take a picture takes just an extra second on the Moto phone. While that doesn't sound like a lot, those extra seconds really add up throughout the day and can make you question your sanity.
It only has 3GB of RAM to support its underpowered processor and a scant 32GB of internal storage. At this point, 32GB just isn't enough capacity for a phone, especially when most people spend more time on their phones. After just two weeks of light use (installing updates and a few apps and taking a few photos), I've already used 18.04 GB (56% of storage) on the G Pure. With Motorola promising an OS upgrade and two years of security updates, you'll likely run out of storage before you run out of software support. The good thing is that it has a microSD card slot where you can expand its limited capacity with a card up to 512 GB.
The G Pure's 6.5-inch LCD may look vibrant with brightness set to 100%, but it's just a low-density 269-pixel 720p display. With a resolution of 1600 x 720p,Spider-Man: No Way Home Trailerit looks more pixelated and darker on the Moto than it does on the OnePlus 9's 2K display. In everyday life you probably won't notice how low the screen resolution is, but if you have higher quality screens in your life it will be noticeable and not in a good way.
i played a littlepokemon unitedfor stress tests and performance was better than I expected, at least once I was able to fully boot up the game. It took me three tries and several forced losses before I could play. Once the game finally loaded, I was able to move my Pokemon around the battlefield with no lag while the battle music played from the single speaker.
It's hard to deny that the Moto G Pure will be good enough for most people.
Using only 4G service to test the G Pure's 4000mAh battery, I spent the day toggling between two email accounts, sharing content on Twitter and Hangouts, and playing a few games.pokemon united. The G Pure sounded great no matter how much you pushed it. While the battery didn't live up to Motorola's two-day usage claims, I managed to get about 16 hours (or about seven hours of screen time) before needing to charge with the charger. Don't expect fast charging, though: It took me around two hours to recharge this battery with the included 10W charging pad. In general, the battery should last at least a full day, or maybe up to two days for a light user.
For a $160 phone, the Moto G Pure's cameras are better than you'd expect, especially for photos you'll probably only share online. Rather than cram another lackluster macro or ultra-wide camera on the rear, Motorola made the wise decision to pack just a dual rear camera system: a 13-megapixel main camera and a 2-megapixel depth sensor, plus a rear-facing sensor. 5 megapixels. Easy-grip front camera system (f/2.4) for selfies.
The 13-megapixel main camera with f/2.2 aperture was surprisingly capable of capturing detail in low-light conditions. At a recent indoor event with tricky lighting, it had no trouble focusing with different light sources in dark rooms and was able to capture fine detail in art installations.
As with other smartphone cameras in this class, color accuracy seems to be an issue with the G Pure. Most of the photos look good, but there are a few issues, like the pumpkins looking too red and the stems looking too blue to be realistic. Similarly, the yellow port should look more orange and the blue port should look more teal (with more green) than blue.
My biggest criticism of the G Pure's camera is the slider-to-zoom interface. Unlike other camera apps where you can tap to choose the most optimal digital zoom presets, Moto's zoom slider doesn't appear automatically in the app. Also, your hand is likely to block your screen when trying to frame your shot while scrolling the slider at the same time.
Moto Pure G photo example.
At $160, or less if you can get a sale or a carrier deal, and since this phone works on many 4G networks in America, it's hard to deny that the Moto G Pure will be good enough for most people who they're looking for an entry-level budget phone under $200. Finally, you've got all-day battery life, a versatile main camera, all in a well-designed, durable package.
It's a shame it doesn't have a faster processor, more RAM, or more internal storage to make it a clear winner. I'd rather Motorola charge a bit higher price like this$ 190 TCL 20SE, which offers 128 GB of internal storage, has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 processor and is supported by 4 GB of RAM. At least you wouldn't have to worry about backing up your phone files all the time.
But these issues may not be a problem for casual users or those on a tight budget. There aren't many great phones available in this price range and the Moto G Pure is the best.
